The anomaly at 13.7 MeV (c.m.) in the 12 C+ 16 O system has been observed for the elastic scattering and the 12 C( 16 O, α) 24 Mg reaction but not for the inelastic scattering. The angular distributions of the elastic scattering showed backward angle anomaly (BAA) and an analysis by using the parity-dependent optical potential model reproduces this BAA fairly well. A resonance analysis concerning this anomaly indicates that the most probable value of J π of this resonance is 8 + . A discussion of the properties of this resonance is given.
